Can an OBD2 dongle replace Kia Connect’s remote features?

I’ve been wondering, can an OBD2 dongle with a cellular connection replicate Kia Connect’s remote features? If the right commands can be sent via OBD2, would it be possible to lock/unlock the doors, remote start, or even check vehicle status without needing Kia’s official service?

I know some third-party apps allow for basic OBD2 functions, but has anyone successfully executed full remote commands through an external device? Would love to hear from anyone who's tried!
 
@Brian_Irons Afaik! I'm not sure if the feature you're looking for is possible. I haven't tried using an OBDII dongle with cellular myself. However, key fobs do have those features like remote start, locking/unlocking, etc., except for running car diagnostics.

In theory, it sounds awesome, but I doubt an OBD2 dongle can fully replace Kia Connect. Kia likely encrypts remote commands, making it nearly impossible to send lock/unlock signals without their servers approving it.

I’ve used OBDLink MX+ for live data and diagnostics, but remote start and locking? That’s another level.

It;s not just about sending the right commands it's about authentication, encryption, and dealing with potential firmware updates that could break your setup.I haven't seen anyone publicly crack that code and it's likely a serious uphill battle not to mention risky if you mess with the car's systems.
