Is the duct cleaning suggestion an EV issue or a dealer trick?

When I had my 22 EV6 FE in for a $24,000 checkup, the dealer recommended a $150 duct cleaning to keep mold from growing. I've driven for 20 years, and I've never heard of this. I turned it down because it seemed like a shady business. Oh, and I take care of that myself, yet they wanted $70 to change the air filter???

Yeah, that duct cleaning suggestion sounds like a stretch. It’s not really an EV thing; all cars can potentially get mold if the ducts stay damp, but it’s rare. As long as you’re changing the air filter regularly and running the defogger to dry things out occasionally, you should be fine. $70 for an air filter swap? Definitely a good call to handle it yourself!

I always make sure to change my filters regularly and use the defogger to prevent moisture buildup. Handling the air filter swap myself was a smart move..

That sounds like a hefty charge for something unnecessary! Duct cleaning for mold prevention isn’t something most people consider, and $70 for an air filter change seems excessive.

I agree, it felt way overpriced for something that’s usually a simple DIY job. Glad I passed on it!
