I leased my 2023 EV6 about a year ago with the idea of potentially buying it out after the first month. I wanted to take advantage of the $7500 lease incentive and avoid the high leasing interest (MF) by financing it instead. But when I brought this up with the Kia finance guy, he claimed there wouldn't be any savings if I went the buyout route.

Now, I’ve got about two years left on the lease, and I’m starting to wonder if I got the full story. Did I miss out on a potential money-saver, or is it true that a lease buyout wouldn’t make much difference?

I’m still interested in buying out the lease if it means any savings. Has anyone else done a buyout on their EV6, or has experience with how much it actually saves?

I’ve heard of other EV6 owners doing lease buyouts to avoid the high money factor, and sometimes it does save in the long run. The key is to look at the buyout fee and any hidden costs – some dealers add “market adjustments” or other fees that reduce savings. If you really love your EV6 and plan to keep it, owning it outright can be a win, but only if the buyout costs line up favorably. You might want to check with another finance advisor, too, just to make sure Kia’s finance guy wasn’t just trying to keep you leasing!

I would suggest finding someone you trust, maybe at your credit union or a finance-savvy friend, to review your lease terms and do the math. A lease buyout can save money in some cases, but it depends on the residual value and current EV6 price. I think a lease calculator online could help too!
