Kia warranty with exterior glass chip problem

Just got a chip in my windshield, but the Kia warranty info is confusing. It says "Cracks in exterior glass" are covered for 1000 miles/3 months. Does that include rock chips, or only factory defects? Dealership says no to the chip, but I can't find details. Anyone else deal with this?
