I’m pretty new to the EV6 world and have been thinking about upgrading the speakers in my car. The system is the Meridian audio setup, and I’ve read that the speakers are 8 ohm. Is that actually the case?

The thing that’s confusing me is seeing others upgrade their speakers to 4 ohms. Does anyone know if that’s okay for the EV6 system or if it’s better to stick with 8-ohm replacements? If you’ve done a speaker upgrade or know a thing or two about audio, I’d love some advice.

I looked into this a while back. The EV6’s Meridian system does use 8-ohm speakers. Swapping them out for 4-ohm speakers can be tricky because it might affect the system’s performance and could potentially strain the amplifier. I decided to stick with the stock setup and just tweaked the equalizer settings to get better sound quality. It saved me money and still improved the listening experience.

Upgrading to 4-ohm speakers could work, but you’ll need to ensure the amp can handle the lower impedance without damaging the system.

I'm interested to know if upgrading the speakers improves the sound quality. Did you go through with the upgrade? If you did what are the advantages and disadvantages?
