I was this close to buying an AI Box or AAWireless adapter for my Kia EV6, but then I realized I already had a cheap, old Android phone lying around. Turns out, it works even better than an AI box, and I saved money in the process!
Here’s what I did:
Installed Fermata Auto to mirror the phone’s screen on Android Auto.
Used MacroDroid to automate brightness, rotation, and resolution.
Added a Bluetooth keyboard/trackpad for easier control.
Set up Poweramp Equalizer to boost bass on the stock Meridian speakers.
Why is this better than an AI box?
Cheaper - a used OnePlus 9 with a cracked screen was $50 on eBay!
Faster processing - even older flagship phones are way more powerful than AI boxes.
Better audio quality - no compression like wireless streaming.
No WiFi? No problem! You can download media at home and use it offline.
It takes some setup and a bit of technical know-how but the end result is a fully customizable Android Auto experience.
